A Record of My Modifications to B6522
I picked this pattern because it was labeled "Fast & Easy." I'm trying to do more simple projects that I can finish quickly. But with me, nothing is ever simple. My body is pretty far from industry standards. My current measurements are 41", 37", 41" (bust, waist, hips) and my biceps are apparently proportionally huge. But after 4 weeks, I've got something that matches my body. I'm recording the changes here so that I can retain this knowledge for the future.
Moved the shoulder seam to give more space for the applique (see Nothing with Me is Ever Simple). Moved the waist up several inches to the point where my body actually narrows (just below the bust). Also, added a bit to the side seam.
Added a front lining to combat semi-sheer fabric choice.
Added a bunch to the back to deal with weird pulling at the armhole. Also, changing to gathers instead of pleats.
Splitting the yoke into 2 pieces with a button to make it easier to get on and off. This will extend into a slit in the back (I lost a lot of the neckline circumference when I shortened the waist). Also, cutting the rear neckline a bit lower, moving shoulder seam, and bringing in the shoulder point a bit.
Did a full arm adjustment, then slash and spread, then took in some of the side seam to reduce belling. Looks like I added 4-5" to the sleeve width in total.
Extended the front to meet the new waist, adjusted the crotch and added POCKETS. Also, marked a line for cutting the lining.
Extended back to meet the new waist (more than in the front, interestingly) and lengthened the crotch seam. Combining the front and back additions, probably added 5" to the crotch seam.
The finished muslin, front and back.
